Why You Should Hire a Local Plumber in NJ

Hiring a professional plumber has numerous advantages. Here are some reasons why you should consider hiring a plumber:

  1. Expertise: Plumbers have the knowledge, experience, and training to handle various plumbing issues. They are well-equipped to diagnose problems and provide the most effective solutions.
  2. Safety: A professional plumber understands the safety protocols required for plumbing systems. They ensure the security of your property and family while carrying out repairs or installations.
  3. Efficiency: Hiring a plumber saves you time and effort. They can quickly identify and fix the root cause of an issue, minimizing the risk of further complications or damage.
  4. Proper tools and equipment: Plumbers have access to the latest tools and technology, allowing them to perform tasks more efficiently and precisely than untrained individuals.
  5. Long-term solutions: A professional plumber can provide long-lasting solutions to your plumbing problems, reducing the likelihood of recurring issues.
  6. Compliance with local codes and regulations: Plumbers know the local plumbing codes and regulations, ensuring that all work they perform is compliant and up to standard.
  7. Warranty and insurance: Professional plumbers are often licensed and insured, providing you with protection and peace of mind. Additionally, their work may come with warranties, ensuring that any issues that arise after the repair or installation will be addressed promptly and without additional cost.
  8. Prevention of damage: Hiring a professional plumber can help prevent potential water damage, mold growth, or structural issues caused by plumbing problems.
  9. Cost-effective: Although hiring a plumber may seem costly upfront, it can save you money in the long run by avoiding DIY mistakes and the need for future repairs.
  10. Emergency services: Many professional plumbers offer 24/7 emergency services, ensuring that urgent issues are addressed promptly and effectively.

There are many ways to find a company to hire whenever you need service. Whether it’s a home appliance, the family car, or a sitter for your cat while you visit an out-of-town sick aunt. There was a time when there was no Yahoo or Google or any other search, and even when they arrived, it wasn’t until the advent of the smartphone and voice recognition devices like the Amazon Echo that we could say, “Alexa, find me a plumber“. As recently as 20 years ago, people had to look up information in a book about the size of a dictionary called the Yellow Pages. It was an alphabetical listing organized by service. And you only got the yellow pages for your immediate area. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, I never knew there were movie theaters until I went to high school about 25 miles from where I lived. But enough about stories that start with “when I was a boy…”

The arrival of the internet as a commercial tool, mobile devices, and search engines is what we deal with today. It gets confusing in the plumbing, heating, and air conditioning business.

First, some companies aggregate service calls with names like “Angie’s List” or “Home Advisors.” When you call their number, they do what I had to do with yellow pages, except the provider pays a fee to them for the lead. And because they do not have a personal relationship with the service provider, it’s a roll of the dice if you get a good, bad, or great one.

Why Choose A Local Plumber?

I have traveled all over the world. Believe it or not, there were times when the native cuisine was not to my taste, and I jumped up when I saw those beautiful Golden Arches of McDonald’s. Because from personal experience, regardless of what it’s called, a Big Mac tastes the same in Portugal as in Mexico City, Singapore, as in Paramus, NJ.

Let’s use that same example. You tend to get more complaints when you base your choice on a plumber or any HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) tech based solely on Yelp or Google reviews. Why? If I just had my drain line cleared and everything is fine, I’m not that motivated to go to Yelp and write an excellent review. But if the one day that the one tech came and didn’t have the part on the truck, and it took longer than expected, and you’re unhappy, you are very likely going to write a slamming review or worse, leave a one-star – no explanation, just one star.

So I’d like you to try something old. Think of our Yellow Pages. Think about Shop Small Campaigns. Think about using your local plumber. And when I say local, I mean within a 30-mile radius. They likely know more about the kind of water you have (hard or soft), why a specific pipe freezes in the winter (because the wind blows mostly easterly and it gets up under the shingles), or that your location or even your state (like NJ) has a new law that states that a replacement water heater needs a 4″ ventilation pipe where there is a 3″ one now. They also likely know the local town inspectors, so you don’t have to sit at home and wait for your sticker.

Let me leave you with one thought. In the last 25 years, high schools have not emphasized much in teaching “the trades,” i.e., electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and even brick-laying. So finding young apprentices is not easy. And like any other type of work, turnovers happen as older workers retire. Get your information from your friends and neighbors. Sure, it’s cool to look up Yelp and Google reviews but realize that local plumbing technicians know local things that out-of-towners may not.
